Depression should be taken seriously – in 2020, an estimated 1.2 million people in the US attempted to commit suicide1
I was one of them - but I was gifted a second chance.

My name is Sean. I am an eye doctor living in the Seattle area with my two daughters, and a golden retriever. I used to try giving others the impression that I had the perfect life, but real life isn’t that simple.
I live with depression and “pure” Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (pure OCD or pure O). In 2020, I learned what happens when OCD gets out of control and depression wins. In desperation, I attempted to take my own life.
My ongoing recovery from mental illness has taught me new things about myself:
- I discovered I have a passion for writing and have found it to be therapeutic.
- I want share my OCD recovery story. I want to educate the public about what OCD actually is. I want people who feel alone to know there is an entire community of people who also know how depression feels. And I want people, who feel hopeless today, to know they can recover and thrive again.
I am currently working on multiple writing projects and will be publishing selected pieces on this blog. My dream is to become published one day. In addition, I enjoy public speaking and would be eager to share my experience with OCD and depression to any groups who might benefit from hearing it.
“One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through, and it will be someone else’s survival guide.”
